Academy of Notre Dame de Namur: Their Go-To for Growth

Location:
Villanova, PA

The Academy of Notre Dame de Namur is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for young women in grades 6 through 12.  Momenee has been the Academy’s “go to” civil site engineers for more than 20 years.  In 2015 the Academy embarked on a Campus Master Plan that included numerous expansion projects to be implemented in several phases.

Phase I included enhancements to the front of the campus including:

  • The addition of two synthetic turf fields and a new running track. Momenee worked with the architect on the layout of the fields and designed sophisticated stormwater management systems for improved drainage and storage management systems to mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Launfal Fieldhouse renovations with a new viewing terrace. Momenee designed the viewing area and provided civil engineering design services for the site renovations.
  • Momenee designed a new, second campus entrance, to facilitate better traffic circulation and alleviate congestion at the entrance intersection.
  • New Notre Dame signage installed on Sproul and Godfrey Roads, which Momenee provided the signage plans that were subsequently approved.

Phase II includes the design and construction of a new state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Building.  Momenee provided the civil site design for this 30,800 square foot facility due to be constructed in 2018.  This project faced numerous challenges including integrating the building between historic gardens, while retaining the original stone walls, and the existing historic mansion with minimal disruption to existing operations.  Safety was paramount and, because there was no parking lot near the proposed building location, a new driveway/access road was designed to provide access for emergency vehicles.  The new building also required drainage improvements to the existing Connelly Hall building which would have otherwise conflicted with the new STEM building.
